Rams fall to No. 13 Holy Family, 56-48

PHILADELPHIA – Senior guard Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored a season-high 15 points in the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's 56-48 setback to 13th-ranked Holy Family in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.

Peltzer shot 6-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-7 from three, and grabbed nine in 39 minutes of action.

Freshman center Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded a double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for the Rams (4-3, 2-1 CACC). Sophomore guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) netted 10 points, while senior forward Kristen Blye (Chester Spring, Pa./Downingtown East) tallied 10 rebounds.

Kelly Brady posted a double-double for Tigers (7-1, 4-0 CACC) with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Mary Ellen McCollum was also in double figures as she netted 10 points.

Peltzer knocked down a pair of three pointers to spark a 12-2 run and put the Rams in front 18-8 with 10:54 left in the opening half.

After taking the 10-point lead, the Rams struggled as they went 0-of-8 from the field and turned the ball over nine times during the remainder of the half.

Holy Family took advantage as Katie Duma scored seven of her game-total nine points and Brady added six points in a half-ending 25-3 run to put the Tigers ahead 33-21.

The Rams came out fighting in the second half as they cut a 34-21 deficit to 36-31 with 16:30 still to play. Peltzer had five of the team's 10 points. Arnao drained a second-chance lay-up to pull Philadelphia within 38-35 at the 13:04 mark.

Holy Family answered with a 12-5 surge, which included a pair of McCollum treys, to push the lead back up to 11 (50-39).

Philadelphia was the better shooting team from the field, 32.7 percent (17-of-52) to 29.2 percent (19-of-65); however, Holy Family made 70.0 percent (14-of-20) of its free throws compared to Philadelphia's 45.0 percent (9-of-20).

The Tigers won the rebounding battle 51-39, including a 17-7 offensive glass advantage.

Philadelphia heads to north to take on Nyack in a CACC battle Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.
