Rams knocked off by No. 22 Bloomsburg, 86-65, in non-conference tilt

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team returned to the court for the first time in 15 days, and was defeated by 22nd-ranked Bloomsburg, 86-65, in a non-conference contest Sunday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.

Sophomore guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) connected on five of her eight three-point attempts and finished with a career-high 17 points. Sophomore guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) added 10 points and three steals for the Rams (6-5.)

Bloomsburg (7-2), ranked 22nd in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll, had five players hit double-figures, led by Lauren Ellis' 25 points and 11 rebounds. Dana Weiller contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

The Rams used a 9-0 run, which included six points from Jacobs, to turn a three-point deficit into a 15-9 advantage with 14:37 left in the first half.

After Bloomsburg took a 29-27 lead on an Andreana Sadowski jumper, Schacker would score five of Philadelphia's next eight points, including a three-pointer at the 2:48 mark, to put the Rams back in front by five (34-29). Philadelphia ended the first half with a 34-33 lead.

The Rams would extend their second half lead to four points (41-37) on two free throws by senior forward Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown E.), who had a team-high eight rebounds, at the 18:01 mark.

With the five of Maggie Borski's game-total 10 points, Bloomsburg went on a 12-3 run to move in front 49-44. The Huskies surrendered the lead as they shot 56.4 percent (22-of-39) and outrebounded the Rams 28-12 in the final 20 minutes.

For the game, Bloomsburg hit 52.2 percent (36-of-69) of its shots, while Philadelphia connected at a 37.0 percent (20-of-54) clip. The Huskies were an 85.7 percent (12-of-14) free throw shooting team. Philadelphia shot 73.1 percent (19-of-26) from the stripe.

Bloomsburg won the rebounding (45-27) and points-in-the-paint (56-14) battles.

Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a home game against Post on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m.
