Arnao records double-double in Rams' 66-59 loss to Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Freshman forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) posted a double-double consisting of 15 points and 13 rebounds in the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's 66-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Georgian Court Thursday night in the Wellness Center.

Arnao, who is fifth in Division II in rebounding, had a solid second half for the Rams (5-4, 3-2 CACC) as she grabbed a team-high six rebounds and scored 11 of the team's 25 points.

Junior guard Samantha Morris (Deptford, N.J./Wenonah) contributed 12 points, while sophomore guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) came off-the-bench to score 10 points.

Senior forward Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) corralled 10 rebounds.

Shauneia McPhearson led the Lions (2-7, 2-4 CACC) with a game-high 19 points. Brittany Baker (10 points, 13 rebounds) and Ebony Sellers (10 points, 11 rebounds) both had double-doubles.

Georgian Court appeared to seize control of a back-and-forth first half with an 8-1 run to take a game-high 24-16 lead with 10:21 left in the half. Behind four points from Schacker, the Rams rattled off 11 unanswered points to grab a 27-24 advantage.

An Elizabeth Lawler jumper with 1:36 left in the half put the Lions back in front 32-31. Georgian Court would lead 37-34 at the half.

After Arnao tied the score at 41 with a free throw, the Lions scored the game's next seven points to take a 48-41 lead with 11:28 to play.

Philadelphia fought back as consecutive Morris baskets knotted the score at 52 at the 5:22 mark. Thirty-eight seconds later, Arnao drained a free throw to the put Rams up 53-52.

A McPhearson lay-up and a Christina White jumper broke a 56-all tie and gave Georgian Court a 60-56 advantage.

The Lions shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field, while the Rams connected on 36.2 percent (21-of-58) of their shots.

Both teams struggled at the free-throw line at Georgian Court shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) and Philadelphia shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23).

The Lions won the battle of the boards 47-41.

Philadelphia returns home to face East Stroudsburg in its final game before the Christmas break on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
