Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – After back-to-back setbacks, the Philadelphia University women's basketball team got itself back on-track after defeating Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Felician, 78-70, Saturday afternoon in Job Gymnasium.
Senior forward Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free throw line in the second half to help her finish with a game-high 23 points.
Senior guard Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was 8-of-9 at the charity stripe on her way to a season-high 14 points.
With the score tied at four, the two combined to score the Rams' (4-2, 2-0 CACC) next seven points to give the team an 11-5 lead and never look back.
Sophomore guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) and junior guard Samantha Morris (Wenonah, N.J./Deptford) took over as they outscored Felician 11-5—Schacker scored six points, while Morris had five—over a 3:10 span to give Philadelphia its first double-digit lead of the game at 23-13 with 7:26 left in the half.
Schacker finished the contest with 12 points and Morris ended up with 11.
A Blye lay-up with 1:37 remaining in the first half allowed Philadelphia to take a game-high 16-point lead (40-24).
The gap stayed in double-figures until Jac'Quel Sanders (five points) hit two free throws with 2:39 left to bring Felician (1-6, 1-1 CACC) within 69-60.
Philadelphia held off Felician by shooting 9-of-12 of the free throw line down the stretch.
Junior guard Megan Finn (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) added 10 points and seven assists, both season-highs.
Felician received 14 points and 12 rebounds from Trina Plummer and a team-high 14 points from Shakeema Green.
Philadelphia shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field and 83.9 percent (26-of-31) from the line. Felician was 31.7 percent (26-of-70) shooting overall and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) at the stripe.
The Golden Falcons outrebounded the Rams, 49-33.
Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center for a CACC showdown against 14th-ranked Holy Family on Tuesday, December 4 at 6 p.m.
