Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team was defeated by Wilmington (Del.), 1-0, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship match Sunday morning on LaMoy Field at Post University.
The Rams were in the final for the second consecutive year and the fifth time since joining the conference since 2004. Philadelphia—who earned the second seed in this year's CACC Tournament—concludes the 2012 season with an overall record of 13-8-0.
Wilmington, the conference's top seed, improves to 13-6-2 and earns the CACC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
After playing a scoreless first half, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the 58th minute. Victoria Vasapolli sent a lofted ball into the box from the 18 and had it kneed into the goal by Chelsea Grace. It was Wilmington's only shot of the second half.
Philadelphia applied pressure late getting three of its five second-half shots on goal, but was stopped each time by Amanda Walters, who finished with six saves.
Senior keeper Kelli Kowalewski (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) stopped four shots, including denying Grace on a breakaway in the 33rd minute.
Philadelphia outshot Wilmington, 10-8, while the Wildcats owned a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
