Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team scored twice during a 3:16 stretch of the first half and then held on to defeat host Holy Family, 2-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon on Tiger Field.
The Lady Rams improve their CACC record to 7-1-0 and their overall mark is 7-4-0. Holy Family falls to 2-5-0 in the CACC and 2-9-0 overall.
The match was scoreless until the 31:36 mark when back Michaela Van Antwerp rocketed a shot into the upper left corner of the net from 30 yards away. Midfielder Trisha Sileo earned an assist on Van Antwerp's first goal of the year.
Sileo netted the Lady Rams' second goal, with an assist from Van Antwerp, in the 35th minute. It was her second goal of 2012.
Philadelphia ratcheted up the pressure in the second half with 16 shots, including seven on goal; however, it was Holy Family that broke through with a goal. Stephanie Fischer scored for the Tigers in the 70th minute with an assist going to Lisa Abramski.
After the goal, the Lady Ram defense stepped up and didn't allow a shot attempt by Holy Family for the duration of the match.
Kelli Kowalewski earned the win in goal for Philadelphia after making four saves, three coming in the first half. Tigers' keeper Rachel Dunkle was called on to stop nine shots. Philadelphia outshot Holy Family, 21-10.
The Lady Rams return to action with a CACC contest against visiting Caldwell on Sunday, Oct. 7 at noon.
