Philadelphia, PA- The #2 seeded Philadelphia University lacrosse team (11-6, 10-2 CACC) stormed to a 19-12 CACC semifinal win over #3 seed Holy Family University (7-10, 6-6 CACC) to earn their third-straight trip to the CACC finale. The Rams will play #1 seed and host Georgian Court University on Sunday (5/1) at noon in the championship match.
In the semifinal match-up, PhilaU junior midfielder Caribeth Shappell and rookie attacker Emily Ray led their squad with six points each (4 G, 2 A). HFU's Jennifer James led all scorers with five goals on the day.
Locked at 3-3 at the 21:29 mark in the first period, HFU took their largest lead of the game at 5-3 and then 6-4, as the Rams managed to always stay within striking distance. And strike they did, as the maroon and gray went on an 8-0 bender that carried into the second half, including two from Shappell and two from freshman midfielder Carli DiCioccio to take a commanding 12-6 lead at 27:55 in the second (DiCioccio had two goals total). The Rams had led 11-6 at the half.
PhilaU junior attacker Taylor Peltzer added a goal and assist (she had five points total) and junior middie Kalin Hodel (who also had six points) notched a goal and two assists in the second stanza to contribute in the 19-12 victory.
Between the pipes, rookie goalie Cory Lombardo made eight saves, while HFU's Melissa Jenkins had 10 saves for the Tigers.
