Lacrosse Handles Wilmington 18-12, Secures #2 Seed for Playoffs

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team (10-6, 10-2 CACC) captured 10 conference wins for the first-time ever under newly minted CACC 'Coach of the Year' Head Coach George Chis-Luca in an 18-12 drubbing of the visiting Wilmington University Wildcats (4-12, 3-8 CACC) on Tuesday afternoon at Ravenhill Field to complete the regular season.

PhilaU junior attacker Kalin Hodel led all scorers with eight points, notching six goals and two assists in the day's work.

In a tight first half, the Rams went up 3-1 early on junior midfielder Caribeth Shappell's first goal at 18:35, but WilmU would take their largest lead of the contest at 8:37 on Meggan Apgar's to go up 8-5.  Shappell would end the day with six total points (2G, 4A).  PhilaU chipped back, scoring the final four goals of the first half to lead 9-8 at the break. 

In the second bout, PhilaU exploded for the first four goals, including two from Hodel to take a commanding 13-8 advantage.  WilmU's leading scorer, Danielle Niccoli would notch two in the half, but the Rams stayed strong for an 18-12 final score. 

PhilaU freshman goalie Cory Lombardo had 10 saves in the win, while WilmU's Corinne Dries had 14 stops.

Next up will be the conference playoffs, hosted by Georgian Court University.  The Rams will play at 3 p.m. as the #2 seed, facing a #3 seed that is TBD.
