Softball Swipes 4-1 Win from USciences

Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University softball team (13-17, 7-10 CACC) won 4-1 over the University of the Sciences (7-26, 5-14 CACC) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Wednesday evening.  PhilaU junior hurler Ali Schmidt collected 13 strikeouts on the day, while going seven complete innings.  The second game of the day was tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning, but was suspended due to darkness and will be made up all over again at a date/time to be determined.   

In the 4-1 win in the first inning, PhilaU junior outfielder Allison Glaser singled to left-field to score rookie leftfielder Devin Griglik, who had reached on a single through the right side.  In the third frame the Rams tacked on two more as junior catcher Katie Renner and Glaser collected RBIs to lead 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, freshman second-baseman Samantha Riabko knocked out her first collegiate homer, a solo shot that cleared the left field fence.  In the sixth, USci broke their silence with an earned run to score Dayna Phillips on a single.

Next up for the Ram squad will be a Saturday (4/23) matinee at Concordia College at 1 p.m
