Philadelphia, PA- The #7 NCAA east-ranked Philadelphia University men's tennis team (17-5, 5-1 CACC) did not let rainy conditions stop their march to their third-straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship match on Tuesday afternoon. The #2 seeded Rams beat the #3 seeded University of the Sciences Devils (9-7, 4-2 CACC) at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center indoor facility.
PhilaU had beaten USci 7-2 earlier in the regular season.
In this post-season match-up, the Rams went up 2-1 in doubles, as the #2 team of sophomore Kyle Burke and junior Ryan Christopher won 8-5 and the #3 combo of seniors Seppi Hutter and Tom McAvoy picked up an 8-0 win.
In singles, #4 Christopher won 6-0, 6-0, #3 junior Manoli Sgouros won 6-1, 6-4, #2 Burke won 6-3, 6-4 and the final point came from #6 Hutter 6-2, 6-0.
The Rams now advance to their third-straight CACC Championship in only three years of its existence. The match will be played on Thursday (4/21) at 3 p.m., against Concordia College (the defending CACC champs) and hosted by Chestnut Hill College.
