New Castle, DE- The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team (6-6, 6-2 CACC) were led by two veterans who chipped in six points each in an 18-8 demolition of the Wilmington University Wildcats (4-9, 3-5 CACC) on Monday afternoon.
PhilaU was led offensively by the junior pair of Kalin Hodel (five goals, one assist) and Taylor Peltzer (three goals, three assists).
In the first half, freshman attacker Emily Ray notched two of her three goals on the day, paired with two from Hodel and one from Peltzer to give the Rams a quick 5-0 lead just nine minutes in. WU responded with a score from their offensive leader- Danielle Niccoli (two goals), but PhilaU would go on a 7-3 flurry to end the half leading 12-4.
In round two, PhilaU opened on a 3-0 streak, helpd by goals from Peltzer, freshman Melissa Styer (two goals) and Hodel. Two goals from WilmU's Molly Taylor nearing the 50:00 mark got the Wildcats as close as they would at 15-6. From there on, the Rams would roll, as junior Caribeth Shappell (two goals), senior midfielder Jennifer Sica (two goals) and Styer added the final PhilaU goals to light up the scoreboard 18-8 when the horn sounded.
PhilaU freshman goalie Cory Lombardo had eight saves in the win, while WilmU's Corinne Dries made 13 stops in the loss.
The Rams next play on Thursday (4/21) at Chestnut Hill College in a 7 p.m. match under the lights, played at Plymouth-Whitemarsh Victory Fields #1.
