Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team (5-5, 5-1 CACC) dropped an 11-8 non-conference tilt against the East Stroudsburg University Warriors (8-5, 5-3 PSAC) on Monday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.
PhilaU was led offensively by junior midfielder Caribeth Shappell who notched two goals and two assists, while ESU's Michelle Mangiaruga led all scorers with four goals.
The Rams started off strong in the first half, punching in the first two goals- compliments of freshman attacker Emily Ray (two goals) and junior midfielder Kalin Hodel (one goal). ESU made it 2-1 with a goal from Ali Green at 23:26, but the Rams would go on to outscore the Warriors 4-2 to end the half up 6-3.
In the second period, both teams were scoreless until the 18:28 mark when Ray put her second goal in to lead 7-4. ESU would pop off four consecutive goals to tie it at 7's, but PhilaU junior Taylor Peltzer (two goals) kept the Rams up 8-7 at 10:44 on a free position shot. The tides turned after that, as ESU would go on a 4-0 run to pull ahead. The eventual game-winner was scored by ESU's Nicole Miller at 6:08.
In goal, PhilaU freshman goalie Cory Lombardo took the loss (5-5) with 18 saves. ESU's Amanda Simms got the win (4-0) in net in the second half and Katie Zollo kept net in the first as they combined for eight saves.
The Rams have four days respite until their next match-up, a CACC battle at home vs. Georgian Court University on Saturday (4/16) at 12:00 p.m.
