Bloomfield, NJ- The Philadelphia University women's softball team (4-6, 0-2 CACC) fell 3-2 and 3-1 in their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games on Sunday against the Bloomfield College Deacons.
In the first game, junior catcher Katie Renner homered to score PhilaU's first run in the third and then in the fifth third baseman Allison Glaser had an RBI single to score freshman right fielder Devin Griglik. The contest was tied 2-2 until the eighth inning, when Lindsey Ciresa singled in Bianka Cosme to win it 3-2.
PhilaU junior pitcher Ali Schmidt took the loss in 7.1 innings pitched, with six strikeouts and two earned runs. BC's Ciresa got the win.
In game two, PhilaU trailed 1-0 until the sixth when freshman shortstop Meaghan Lewis homered. A sixth inning two-run homer by BC gave the Deacons the 3-1 win. In this one, Schmidt pitched six innings and had six strikeouts in the loss while BC's Kaila Dugger collected the win.
The Rams travel to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday (3/22) for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader next.
