Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to force overtime, but ended up falling to the University of the Sciences, 67-62, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday in Bobby Morgan Arena.
Philadelphia (7-3, 3-1 CACC) trailed 40-29 before making its run. Stephanie Agger, who had a team-high 17 points, capped a 7-1 run with a basket to cut the gap to 41-36 with 14 minutes left. Agger added five points during a 7-0 run that put the Lady Rams ahead 47-46.
The two schools traded one-point leads until Becca Rueggear, who netted 12 points, hit a free throw to put USciences (4-4, 2-1 CACC) ahead 53-51 with six seconds left. Agger came up with a clutch lay-up with 1.4 to go and tie the game and send it to overtime.
In the overtime, neither team led by more than two until the final 10 seconds were left. Rueggear snapped a 62-all tie with two free throws with 35 seconds left. After the Lady Rams came up empty on the ensuing possession, the Devils Brianne Traub, who had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, hit a free throw with 10 seconds left to make the score 65-62.
The Lady Rams' Christine Wooding recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points, 14 rebounds. Kristen Blye added 10 points.
Carolyn Edwards pitched in with 12 points for USciences
Philadelphia shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the field and 65.4 percent (17-of-26) at the line. USciences connected at a 36.1 percent (22-of-61) clip and 60.7 percent (17-of-28) at the line.
The major difference was from three-point range with the Devils hitting six of their 15 attempts (40.0 percent), while the Lady Rams were 1-of-5 (20 percent). USciences owned a 52-35 rebounding advantage, including a 21-10 edge on the offensive glass.
Philadelphia returns home to take on Washington Adventist in a non-conference tilt Monday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.
