Lady Rams fall to Holy Family in CACC title game, 1-0

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team's season came to a close after a 1-0 defeat to Holy Family University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship match Saturday afternoon at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

The Lady Rams, who were the tournament's top seed, close out 2011 with an overall record of 16-3-2. The 16 wins are the most in a single season under head coach George Dunbar.

With the win Holy Family, the sixth seed, claims the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA championship tournament. The Tigers are now 13-7.

The game was scoreless until the 66th minute. Dawn Curry broke the deadlock when she headed home a corner kick taken by Lindsay Fisher at the 65:56 mark.

The Lady Rams put pressure on the Tigers' defense late by taking four of their game total 10 shots in the final 24 minutes. Tigers' keeper Gina Mansi stopped the only shot that made it on target.

Mansi finished the game with three saves. Philadelphia's Kelli Kowalewski made four saves, including a diving save in the 11th minute to keep the match scoreless. The Lady Rams owned a 10-8 shot advantage, including a 7-2 margin in the second half

Carla Chmielewski, Chelsea Riedell and Gabrielle Haden represented the Lady Rams on the CACC All-Tournament team.
