Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's basketball team (7-6, 3-3 CACC) lost their third-straight on Sunday afternoon, a 59-52 loss to the University of the District of Columbia (11-6) at the Gallagher Athletic Center.
PhilaU was led by junior guard Stephanie Agger's 17 points, along with four rebounds and four assists. UDC's Niqky Hughes led all scorers with 19 points.
PhilaU shot just 30% from field goal range on the day (16-53) and the team's leading scorer, senior forward Kate Brennan, was held to just six points (along with 13 rebounds).
The home squad fell behind early in a tight first half, and held a two-point lead just twice at 8:53 on two good foul shots by Agger to go up 14-12 and then at 2:38 in the first on two more Agger free-throws up 23-21.
UDC held a 28-27 lead at halftime.
In the second half PhilaU junior forward Christine Wooding would have 10 of her 11 points as she opened up the stanza with a jumper at 18:57. The Rams were held scoreless for over eight minutes and the Firebirds pushed ahead by as many as 10 until an Agger jumper ended the drought at 3:11 to make it 51-43.
PhilaU's Brennan would hit a big three at 2:13, but it was too late for the Rams as UDC rolled to a 59-52 win- their fourth-straight. Also in double-digits for PhilaU was sophomore forward Kristen Blye with 10 points, six boards.
UDC's Lillian McGill added 18 points and 15 boards in her team's effort.
PhilaU Head Coach Tom Shirley will continue his hunt for 600 wins, next on Wednesday (1/19) in a 6 p.m. contest vs. Chestnut Hill College at the Gallagher Athletic Center.
