Philadelphia, PA- The #2 ranked Philadelphia
University men's tennis team (19-5, 10-2 CACC) picked up a
postseason win on Tuesday afternoon in the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semifinals vs. #3 Chestnut Hill
College (7-9, 7-5 CACC) at the Abraham J. Salaman'58
Courts. The Rams are currently ranked fifth in the NCAA
Division II East region.
The Rams now advance to the CACC Team Championship on Thursday
(4/22) at 3:00 p.m., held at CHC.
PhilaU was led by their doubles tandems, which gave the team an
early 3-0 lead and the confidence they needed going into singles
action. The #3 doubles team of juniors Tom
McAvoy (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and Seppi
Hutter (Bellevue, WA/ Bellevue) put the first Ram point on
the board, going 8-4 over CHC's Adrian Avena/ David
Negron.
Ram sophomore #5 singles Eric Guerrero
(Lawrence, MA/ Central Catholic) finished the day for PhilaU,
getting a 6-0, 6-2 win over CHC's John Reading to stop play
for the 5-0 semifinal victory.
Still ahead for the Rams will be the CACC Individual Tournament,
which takes place on Friday (4/23) - Saturday (4/24) at CHC.
Play begins at 9 a.m. both days. NCAA East region #1
Concordia will not be competing in the Individual
Tournament.
