Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady Rams (6-5,
5-2 CACC) were knocked off 13-12 in overtime by the Wilmington
University Wildcats (8-5, 5-4 CACC) on Tuesday afternoon at
Ravenhill Field.
The Lady Rams fell behind right away as WilmU took a quick 4-0
lead helped by Eliza Burk's two goals. PhilaU came
right back on a 4-0 run, with two goals each by senior midfielder
Kathleen Maurer (Rochester, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy) and sophomore
attacker Jessica Burton (Falmouth, MA/ Falmouth).
The Wildcats struck back with two scores, but PhilaU junior
attack Taylor Boyle (Wilton, CT/ Wilton) notched a point-blank shot
to put the Lady Rams within one as the halftime score read WU 6,
PhilaU 5.
PhilaU tied it at 8-8 at 21:46 in the second half on a man-up
goal from Maurer. PhilaU senior attacker Lauren Woodie
(Monmouth Beach, NJ/ Shore) gave the home squad their first lead of
the day with a goal at 18:06 to make it 9-8.
WU's Burk tied it 10-10 with a roll off the crease at
12:53 and the 'Cats added another goal nearly five minutes
later to take an 11-10 lead. PhilaU's Woodie gave the
Lady Rams an 11-11 tie with under three minutes in regulation.
PhilaU sophomore midfielder Caribeth Shappell (Lancaster, PA/
Cocalico) scored on a free position shot at 3:18 in the overtime
period, but WU's Niccolli scored again to lock it up
12-12. The 'Cats got their final score at :27 as Kory
Webster made it 13-12, the final score.
PhilaU senior goalie Kat Sullivan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/ Lenape) had
seven saves for PhilaU, while WU's Amber Smith had nine stops
for the 'Cats.
