Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
women's lacrosse team (3-3, 3-0 CACC) won their second
straight contest in a 17-8 overpowering of the Holy Family
University Tigers (2-3, 2-1 CACC) on Saturday afternoon at
Ravenhill Field.
PhilaU sophomore midfielder Caribeth Shappell
(Lancaster, PA/ Cocalico) led all scorers with seven points (5G,
2A).
The Lady Rams jumped right into action, scoring 10 straight
goals in the first 23 minutes-led by Shappell's first three
scores.
HFU's Katherine Podlinski put the Tigers on the board 10-1
at 5:38 remaining in the first stanza. Podlinski led her
squad with three points on the day.
PhilaU led 13-2 at the half.
Although HFU outscored the Lady Rams 6-4 in the second half, it
didn't matter as PhilaU had enough cushioning, helped by
junior attacker Taylor Boyle (Wilton, CT/ Wilton)
who notched one goal in the half and three on the day.
PhilaU senior midfielder Kathleen Maurer
(Rochester, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy) added three points for the Lady
Rams in the contest.
In goal, PhilaU senior keeper Kat Sullivan (Mt.
Laurel, NJ/ Lenape) made nine stops in 60 minutes, while
HFU's Melissa Jenkins recorded six saves for the Tigers.
PhilaU stays at home for their next contest, a 4:00 p.m. date
with Georgian Court University on Tuesday (3/30).
