East Stroudsburg, PA- The Philadelphia
University women's lacrosse team (1-3, 1-0 CACC) suffered a
17-6 road loss on Saturday to the East Stroudsburg University
Warriors (3-1, 0-1 PSAC). PhilaU sophomore midfielder
Caribeth Shappell (Lancaster, PA/ Cocalico) led
her squad with three goals.
ESU led from the get-go, starting on a 5-0 run through the first
22 minutes of play. PhilaU finally got on the board at 7:43
with the first of Shappell's three points, adding another
just two minutes later to make it 5-2.
PhilaU senior midfielder Kathleen Maurer
(Rochester, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy) would add her only goal of the
game with 2:52 in the first period to trail 6-3 at halftime.
The Warriors outscored the Lady Rams 11-3 in the second half, as
ESU's Jamie Wesztergom exploded for three quick goals in the
first 5:30 of the second stanza
PhilaU junior attacker Kelly Dallas (Cherry
Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East), Shappell and freshman middie
Rachel Balint (Robbinsville, NJ/ Robbinsville)
would all score but it wouldn't be enough as the visitors
went down 17-6.
PhilaU senior goalie Kat Sullivan (Mt. Laurel,
NJ/ Lenape) had 12 saves in 60 minutes, while ESU's Amanda
Simms and Katie Zollo split halves for the Warriors-totaling 13
stops.
The maroon and gray return to action on Tuesday (3/23) vs.
Dominican College at Ravenhill Field at 4:00 p.m.
