Philadelphia, PA- Senior center Jessica
Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) dropped in a
game-high 25 points and 10 pull-downs in leading the Philadelphia
University Lady Rams (13-10, 11-4 CACC) to a 72- 65 Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over the University of
the Sciences (9-12, 5-9 CACC) on Tuesday evening at the Bobby
Morgan Arena. Romano scored her 1,000th point in the
win.
Free-throw shooting played a key role in the win, as PhilaU
outshot USP (96%-75%).
A Romano jumper at 10:51 in the first half gave the Lady Rams an
early 19-11 lead and two made free-throws from freshman
Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, PA/ Downingtown
East) gave PhilaU their biggest lead of the stanza at 38-17.
At the break, PhilaU led 40-22.
USP opened up the half on a 4-0 run, helped by a jumper from
leading scorer Alyssa Hamm- who tallied 13 points, four rebounds
and four assists on the night.
PhilaU senior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford,
NJ/ Sterling) put an end to that with a fast break layup,
converting the three-point play to put PhilaU up 47-29.
Brennan notched 21 points and two rebounds on the night.
It was all maroon and gray for the rest of the contest,
clinching it 72-65 when the dust settled. PhilaU sophomore
forward Christine Wooding (Northfield, NJ/
Mainland) contributed nine points for PhilaU.
The Lady Rams return to action on the road on Saturday (2/20) at
Post University for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
