New Castle, DE- Philadelphia University (8-9,
6-3) outhustled the Wilmington University Wildcats (7-10, 4-5 CACC)
87-77 as Lady Ram senior center Jessica Romano
(Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) led the way with her sixth
double-double of the season- 21 points and 11 boards on the road
Thursday evening.
The Lady Rams got the advantage on the boards (49-37) and at the
foul line (32-9).
PhilaU sprinted out to a 27-6 lead to start the first half,
helped by eight points from PhilaU freshman forward Taylor
Peltzer (Holland, PA/ Archbishop Wood). Peltzer
finished the night with 15 points and eight rebounds. The
'Cats responded with an 11-4 run of their own- as Danielle
Thomas hit two treys and finished at the office with 15 points.
PhilaU junior forward Ashley Gaskins
(Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) closed the half with a bucket as
the maroon and gray led 49-28. On the night, Gaskins had 15
points and 11 boards to go along with two steals.
WU opened the second stanza on a 13-0 comeback, getting the
PhilaU lead to just six (55-49) at 10:34.
PhilaU sophomore forward Christine Wooding
(Northfield, NJ/ Mainland) went 8-8 at the line on the night in a
two-minute span, keeping the Lady Rams up 74-64 at 3:23.
Wooding had 14 points and six boards for the Lady Rams.
WU's Amelia Simmons led her squad with 20 points and six boards,
but it wouldn't be enough as PhilaU's Romano made two free-throws
to end the night on top 87-77.
PhilaU returns to the Gallagher Athletic Center in their next
contest on Saturday (1/30) in a 2 p.m. meeting with Concordia
College.
