Lakewood, NJ- The #2 seeded Philadelphia
University lacrosse team (10-7, 8-2 CACC) won the inaugural Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Championship
11-9, knocking off the #1 seeded Georgian Court University Lions
(15-3, 10-0 CACC) on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Rams had not previously beaten GCU in their two
meetings this season.
Junior midfielder Kathleen Maurer (Rochester
NY/ Our Lady of Mercy) scored the game-winner at 7:38 remaining in
the second half, and rookie midfielder Caribeth
Shappell (Lancaster, PA/ Cocalico) added an insurance goal
at 4:44 as the Lady Rams held on for the championship victory.
Shappell was named CACC Tournament 'MVP' for her efforts,
while teammates sophomore midfielders Michelle
O'Hanlon (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) and
Danielle Coffaro (Webster, NY/ Webster Schroeder)
along with freshman attacker Taylor Peltzer
(Holland, PA/ Archbishop Wood) earned All-Tournament honors.
For the contest, both Peltzer and Maurer had three goals, while
Coffaro and O'Hanlon added one apiece.
The Lady Ram's Championship win was the first for the program as
well as first-year head coach George Chis-Luca.
