Wilmington, DE- The Philadelphia University
softball team (22-19, 13-11 CACC) wrapped up a record-setting week
with a doubleheader split at Goldey-Beacom College (19-21, 8-14
CACC) on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams fell 0-1 in game one
and got a 7-0 win in the second game of the day. PhilaU
secured themselves a CACC playoff berth (the first time in program
history) with their regular season finish.
In game one, GBC scored the winning run in the bottom of the
sixth inning on a throwing error by the PhilaU left fielder.
In that contest, freshman pitcher Ali Schmidt
(Cordova, MD/ Easton) had six strikeouts in six innings pitched,
walking just one batter.
In game two the PhilaU offense exploded for seven runs on seven
hits in the first inning. In that inning both sophomore
outfielder Jen Richard (Millstone Twp., NJ/
Allentown) and junior outfielder Kristyn Loughery
(Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) batted twice. Loughery was
3-4 at the plate with one RBI and freshman infielder Katie Renner
(Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) went 1-4 with two RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Amber Beauchemin (Galloway,
NJ/ Absegami) got the win in seven innings, striking out three and
allowing just five hits.
The Lady Rams return to action at home on Tuesday (4/28) in
their regular season finale and senior day vs. Chestnut Hill at
2:30 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
