Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University men's tennis team (18-7, 10-0 CACC) dismantled the University of the Sciences Devils (11-7, 8-2 CACC) in a 5-0 win to claim the first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Championship on Thursday evening.  This year was the CACC's inaugural season of men's tennis as a sponsored sport. 

The win gives Philadelphia University their most-ever conference championship titles in the CACC (five) in a single year as other championships were won by women's cross country, women's tennis and men's and women's basketball. 

At #1 doubles, the freshman team of Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/ Gainesville) and Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY/ Holy Cross HS)  teamed up to defeat USP's Francisco Garcia and Bill Fine 8-3.  The Torroella-Cruz/Sgouros combination is also expected to play well in the CACC Individual Tournament which begins tomorrow (4/24) at Chestnut Hill College.

The sophomore team of Tom McAvoy (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and Seppi Hutter (Bellevue, WA/ Bellevue) won 8-3 at #2 doubles over Ricardo Martins and Paul Caceres while #3 doubles team of sophomore Mario Bermeo (Tannersville, PA/ Notre Dame) and freshman Eric Guerrero (Lawrence, MA/ Central Catholic) defeated Chris Lukose/Dan Rubin in a hard fought 9-8 (7-5) set. 

Both Sgouros and Hutter took their singles points to secure the 5-0 win and subsequent CACC title for the Rams.
