Orangeburg, NY- The Philadelphia University
softball team (17-16, 8-8 CACC) was swept in a CACC doubleheader by
the Dominican College Chargers (25-12, 11-2 CACC) on Saturday
afternoon. PhilaU lost 1-0 in an eight inning game one, and
3-1 in the second contest. Junior outfielder Jen
Richard (Millstone Twp.,NJ/ Allentown) led the Lady Rams
at the plate, going 3-7 on the day.
Game one was a pitcher's duel as the game went scoreless through
seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth DC's Nicole
Scarillo hit a one out double and designated player Danielle
Garrison delivered an infield single off the shortstop that brought
in the game winning win the Chargers.
PhilaU freshman hurler Ali Schmidt (Cordova,
MD/ Easton) took the loss as she got 12 strikeouts and DC's Katrina
Pistilli took the victory.
In game two DC struck for two runs in the first inning on a
two-run double down the left field line by Scarillo which brought
in Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) and Sarah Beck (Milton, NY)
who hit back to back singles with two outs.
Dominican added a run in the fourth inning on three consecutive
singles to go up 3-0, but the Lady Rams got on the board in the
fifth on an RBI single to center by left fielder Kristyn
Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) to cut the
deficit to 3-1.
PhilaU freshman pitcher Amber Beauchemin
(Galloway, NJ/ Absegami) suffered the loss in three innings pitched
for the maroon and gray, allowing two runs on seven hits while
Garrison got the DC win.
The team picks up action tomorrow (4/19) at PhilaU for an 11
a.m. doubleheader vs. Post University.
