Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
Lady Rams (17-14, 8-6 CACC) split a doubleheader against the Molloy
College Lions (14-18, 4-4 ECC) on Monday afternoon. The Lady
Rams took game one 6-1 and fell after a late MC comeback in game
two 5-3. Sophomore outfielder Jen Richard
(Millstone Twp., NJ/ Allentown) went 4-5 at the plate on the day
with three RBIs.
In game one both pitchers had no-hitters going into the third
inning until PhilaU junior first baseman Kelly
Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) smacked a triple into center
field to start a three run rally for PhilaU. Junior
outfielder Kristyn Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/
Phoenixville) and Richard followed suit with RBI doubles, and
freshman third baseman Danielle Parisi (Teaneck,
NJ/ W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) brought in Richard on a fielder's
choice to make it 3-0.
MC's Meghan Karpinski hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth
to get the Lions within striking range at 3-1, but Parisi went yard
for her second homer of the season to bring in three more runs in
the fifth and give PhilaU a 6-1 cushion that would be the
final tally.
PhilaU freshman hurler Ali Schmidt (Cordova,
MD/ Easton) had 11 strikeouts in the game, going seven innings and
allowing just one run. MC's Lauren Urbont took the loss for
the Lions in seven innings, giving up six runs on seven hits.
In the night cap, PhilaU got on the board in the first inning on
a sacrifice fly from freshman Sara Romano
(Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) to score Loughery who had reached
on a single. The Lady Rams tacked on two more in the bottom
of the second inning as Richard hit a two RBI single to inch PhilaU
ahead 3-0.
The Lions put a run on the board in the top of the fifth with a
solo home run by Michelle Walsh, and MC rallied for four runs more
runs on four hits in the top of the sixth to take a come from
behind 5-3 win.
PhilaU freshman pitcher Amber Beauchemin
(Galloway, NJ/ Absegami) took the loss in 5.1 innings, while MC's
Allison Ryan pitched a complete game for the Lions- allowing four
hits.
The Lady Rams return to action on Wednesday, April
15th for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom
College.
