Manchester, NH- The
Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team (0-1) opened their
season with an 18-5 loss to the Southern New Hampshire University
Penmen (1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Rams fell behind 1-0 just under three minutes into
regulation, but a goal by freshman Taylor Peltzer
(Holland, PA/ Archbishop Wood) and two scores from junior
Kathleen Maurer (Rochester, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy)
gave PhilaU a brief 3-2 lead at 18:04 in the first.
The Penmen went on to score four unanswered goals to end the
first stanza leading 6-3.
The Lady Rams added two more goals in the second stanza, from
freshman Caribeth Shappell (Lancaster, PA/
Cocalico) and junior Lauren Woodie (Monmouth
Beach, NJ/ Shore Regional)- but SNHU tallied 12 scores in
that half to close out the 18-5 victory.
PhilaU junior goalie Katherine Sullivan (Mt.
Laurel, NJ/ Lenape) had 12 saves in 60 minutes of work for the Lady
Rams, while SNHU's Katie Clark had four saves and tallied her first
win of the season for the Penmen.
PhilaU returns to action tomorrow, Sunday March 8th
at Bentley at 10 a.m.
