Philadelphia, PA- Freshman pitcher Ali
Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) got her first career CACC
victory in a game one 4-0 win, but the Philadelphia University
softball team (8-9, 1-3 CACC) fell 7-6 in the second game of the
day to visiting Felician College (4-11, 3-1 CACC) on Tuesday
afternoon.
Freshman utility Sarah Romano (Harrisburg, PA/
Central Dauphin) went 3-6 with five RBIs on the day, including all
four runs in game one. Romano singled in the first Lady Ram
run in the first game in the bottom of the first inning and
followed up with a three-RBI double in the fifth to make it
4-0. Schmidt allowed just one hit in the win for PhilaU,
while FC pitcher Nicole Broecker took the loss.
In game two, PhilaU sophomore outfielder Jen
Richard (Millstone Twp., NJ/ Allentown) scored on a passed
ball to give the Lady Rams a 1-0 lead in the first inning. FC
came back with a two-run double in the top of the second inning and
three more runs on four hits in the third to go ahead 5-1.
PhilaU's Romano had an RBI single in the bottom of the third to
get her squad closer, but FC added two more runs in the next two
innings to extend their lead to 7-2 in the sixth.
The Lady Rams came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning with
a stand up triple from junior outfielder Kristyn
Loughery (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) that sparked
five consecutive hits. Freshman infielder Katie
Renner (Berryville, VA/ Brunswick) doubled in two runs and
junior third baseman Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore,
NYU/ Wellington Mepham) followed with an RBI double of her
own. Junior catcher/outfielder Maggie
Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John the Baptist) ripped an RBI
double into left field to complete the scoring for PhilaU as the
team trailed 7-6.
The Lady Rams had runners at first and second in the seventh
with one out, but FC's Kristina Jimenez got a foul out and a strike
out to hold on for a 7-6 victory for the visitors. PhilaU's
Schmidt had the loss in game two, going 2.2 innings and allowing
five runs. Sophomore pitcher Randi Wozniak
(Newtown Sq., PA/ Marple Newtown) went 4.1 innings in relief for
PhilaU, allowing two runs and six hits.
