Caldwell, NJ- A game-winning layup from
sophomore guard Stephanie Agger (N. Cape May, NJ/
Lower Cape May) sealed a 80-78 win for the Philadelphia University
Lady Rams (18-9, 13-5 CACC) over Caldwell College (10-17, 8-9 CACC)
on Friday night. Agger had just five points on the night, five of
them coming in the final twenty seconds.
With the game tied at 78 even with nine seconds remaining, the
Cougars called a timeout. Yet, Agger ruined any chance of a
CC comeback, sinking the layup with three seconds left on the
clock.
The Lady Rams trailed for most of the first half, until an Agger
free-throw gave PhilaU a 26-25 lead at 7:01. PhilaU senior
guard Amanda Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling)
nailed a jumper just before the halftime buzzer to give the Lady
Rams a 43-42 lead going into the break. A. Brennan had 15
points on the night, while sophomore forward Ashley
Gaskins (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) had 10 points
and 10 boards.
The Cougars took a brief two-point lead but PhilaU junior center
Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham)
responded with a bucket to tie it 47-47 at 18:14 remaining in the
second half. Romano had a team-high 17 points and 13 boards.
Brennan hit a three-ball at 1:37 to give the Lady Rams a76-72
lead at 1:37, assisted by junior guard Nina
Brascetta (Philadelphia, PA/ Archbishop Ryan).
Brascetta had 10 points and six assists on the night.
CC's Kirsty Leedham led all scorers with 29 points.
Agger answered both times Caldwell tied the game in the final
minute and PhilaU completed the regular season with an 80-78
win. The win gives the Lady Ram's home court advantage for
their CACC Quarterfinal game on Monday (3/2) vs. University of the
Sciences-Philadelphia) at 7:00 p.m.
