sophomore forward Gabrielle Haden (Freehold, NJ/
Colts Neck) used her head to carry the PhilaU women's soccer team
(12-4-3, 10-2 CACC) to a 2-1 double-overtime thriller over Holy
Family University (9-8-1, 7-3-1 CACC) on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Lady Rams are the regular season CACC
Champions.
Haden headed the game-winner into the left side of the net in
the 111th minute of play off a cross from freshman
midfielder Melissa Copeland (Islip Terrace, NY/
East Islip).
The Lady Rams outshot HFU 30-16.
HFU struck early, getting a 1-0 lead at 19:54 in the first half
on a goal by Dawn Curry. The Lady Rams would wait until the
63rd minute to tie the match 1-1 on a shot from Haden,
assisted by sophomore forward Kristen McKale
(Huntingdon Valley, PA/ Lower Moreland).
Both teams fought through the first scoreless ten minute
overtime period before Haden struck again, this time just over one
minute into the second and final overtime period.
PhilaU freshman goalie Kelli Kowalewski
(Shamong, NJ/ Seneca) made seven saves for the Lady Rams, while
HFU's Gina Mansi had 15 stops for the Tigers.
The Lady Rams return to action in the first round of the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Playoffs on Tuesday (11/3),
as the #1 seed at 2:00 p.m. vs. #8 Felician College at Ravenhill
Field. A win on Tuesday would give the Lady Rams a Thursday
(11/5) date in the semifinals at 11 a.m.
