Philadelphia, PA- The
Philadelphia University women's soccer team (9-3-3, 7-1 CACC)
topped the Georgian Court University Lions (8-6, 6-2 CACC), 1-0 in
double-overtime Tuesday evening at Ravenhill Field.
Junior midfielder Natalie Vespe (Acto, NJ/ St.
Joseph) ended the scoreless deadlock on a penalty kick at the
107:58 mark, notching her first goal of the season to push the Lady
Rams past the Lions 1-0.
As time ticked away and darkness descended on Ravenhill Field, a
handball on GCU resulted in Vespe's PK, which she shot past the
right side of Lions' goal keeper Lindsay Hammond and into the back
corner of the net for the victory.
Throughout the second half and in overtime, PhilaU pressured
Hammond, landing 15 shots on goal in the second period and two more
in the second OT. Meanwhile, the Lady Rams' defense denied the
Lions attack opportunities.
PhilaU.'s freshman goal keeper Kelli Kowalewski
(Shamong, NJ/Seneca) turned away all seven of the Lions shots on
goal (five in regulation one in each overtime period).
The Lady Rams will play the second game of a three-game home
stand on Thursday (10/15) vs. Shippensburg University in a
non-conference match up at 4:00 p.m. at Ravenhill Field.
