Men's Tennis Team Falls in NCAA Tournament First-Round Match

The Philadelphia University men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to Concordia College on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament.  With the loss in Easton, Mass. on the campus of Stonehill College, Head Coach Marty Gilbert's team closes the year with a 15-9 overall record.

The Clippers took a commanding 3-0 advantage in doubles play to open the match with senior Alex Richter and freshman Tom McAvoy falling by the closest margin, an 8-5 setback at #2 doubles.  In singles, the Clippers put the contest away with victories at #1 and #5, advancing to the second round.

The appearance in the NCAA Tournament was the first-ever for men's program and Gilbert's team set a new single-season school record with 15 victories.
