The visiting Golden Lions from Dowling College, in their first
season of varsity women's lacrosse play, improved to 9-5 overall
and 3-3 in the East Coast Conference (ECC) with a 15-9 win over the Lady Rams today at
Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia University drops to 11-4 in all games and 2-3 in
the ECC. The Lady Rams trailed 11-3 at halftime and never
overcame an opening Golden Lions' barrage which saw the visitors
score the first nine goals of the contest.
Senior midfielder Brooke Woodland (West Grove,
Pa./Avon Grove; pictured) led Philadelphia University with three
goals, eight ground balls and four forced turnovers in the losing
cause.
Senior attacker Shannon Shippey (Freeport,
N.Y./Freeport) and sophomore midfielder Kathleen
Maurer (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) each registered
two goals for the Lady Rams in today's game. Shippey now has
98 tallies in her outstanding Philadelphia University career, just
two away from the century plateau.
Dowling were led by sophomore attacker Melanie
Burgos (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) who recorded four goals,
three assists, eight ground balls and two caused turnovers in the
winning effort for the Golden Lions.
Up next for Head Coach Jenn Devinney's team is their last
weekend of regular-season play for the 2008 season. It
begins on Saturday, May 3 at Ravenhill Field, as the Lady Rams have
their Senior Day game at 12:00 noon versus Dominican College, whom
Philadelphia University defeated 19-5 in Orangeburg, N.Y., back on April
20. The final game is scheduled for Sunday, May 4 at
#1-ranked LIU-C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y., beginning at 1:00 p.m.
