The Philadelphia University men's and women's tennis teams made
appearances in the latest NCAA East Region Rankings, release on
Wednesday, April 2nd. Head Coach Marty Gilbert (pictured) has
his men's squad ranked eighth in the latest poll while his women's
team was also ranked eighth.
On the men's side, the Rams have compiled a 7-7 overall record
including a 3-2 regional mark. Leading the way has been the
freshman duo of Kyle Kaltenbacher and Seppi Hutter.
Kaltenbacher, who has played mainly at #1 singles and #1 doubles,
is tied with Hutter for the team-lead with five singles wins
and has a combined 11 victories on the season. Hutter,
meanwhile, has a team-high 12 combined victories including five in
singles play and seven in doubles action.
The women's team, looking to make its second NCAA Tournament
appearance in the past three seasons, has been led by senior Maddie
Smith. The school's all-time leader in combined wins with 139
and counting, Smith has also registered a school single-season
record with 41 combined victories this season including a stellar
21-4 mark in doubles. The CACC Player of the Year, Smith has
also gotten outstanding support from the freshman duo of Adriana
Rodriguez and Daniela Rodriguez, who have registered 40 combined
wins and 32 combined wins, respectively, this season for the Lady
Rams, who are 15-5 overall.
