Senior Jacque Curtis (pictured) had an outstanding offensive
performance for the Philadelphia University softball team on Sunday
afternoon against Adelphi University, but it wasn't enough to
prevent a doubleheader sweep by the Panthers. Curtis finished
the twinbill with five hits, four runs, five RBI and two homeruns
for the Lady Rams, who fall to 12-24 overall on the season.
In the opening contest, Curtis went 2 for 3 with two homeruns
and four RBI, but the Panthers registered the 8-4 decision.
With her second homerun, Curtis set the school's all-time homerun
record with 14, eclipsing the previous mark of 13 set by former
Lady Rams' standout Linsdey Field. Fellow senior Janine
Becker registered the only other hit for Philadelphia University in
the contest, a lead-off single in the fifth inning.
In the second game of the day, Curtis went 3 for 4 with two runs
and one RBI, but once again, the Panthers prevailed, this time by a
10-7
margin. Curtis tied another school record held by Field in
the second contest, picking up her 77th career RBI. In
addition to Curtis, sophomore Kristin Giamatteo went 2 for 4 at the
plate, driving in a pair of runs in the setback.
Head Coach John Kelly and his team will look to get back on the
winning track after losing four straight contests when they host
Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday, April 22nd.
