Head Coach John Kelly's club dropped a pair of
hard-fought games today in Lakewood, N.J. versus defending Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champion Georgian Court
University.
The Lions, currently ranked #16 in the country according to the
latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division
II Top 25 poll, took game one by a count of 3-2 in eight
innings. The Lady Rams jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after
the first half inning, but were unable to plate another run.
Senior pitcher Jacque Curtis (Punxsutawney,
Pa./Punxsutawney) worked five and one-third innings of two-hit
ball, striking out three and yielding just one run. However,
Georgian Court came back to tie the game in the bottom of the
seventh to force extra frames, and then the homestanding Lions
manufactured three consecutive base hits in the bottom of the
eighth to secure the win.
In game two, again Philadelphia University opened up a lead,
this time 1-0 through three and a half, but the Lions rallied for
four in the fourth before tacking on an insurance run in the fifth
to sweep the twinbill with a 5-1 win.
Senior left fielder and lead-off batter Maureen
Keenan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan; pictured)
belted two singles and a double while scoring one run on the
afternoon in the defeats.
The Lady Rams fall to 3-15 for the season and 1-5 in CACC play,
and they look to get back on a winning track this Friday when they
host Nyack College for a conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00
p.m.
