Molloy College limited Philadelphia University to a combined
nine hits in two games as the Lady Lions swept a non-conference
doubleheader by scores of 9-1 and 3-0 in Rockville
Centre, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. The pair of losses snap a
four-game winning streak by the Lady Rams as they fall to 12-22
overall on the season.
Molloy jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opener in the
bottom of the second inning when sophomore outfielder Erin Rut
collected an RBI single and then scored on an RBI triple off the
bat of junior second baseman Michelle Walsh. Head Coach John
Kelly's squad battled back with a run in the top of the third
inning when senior pitcher Jacque Curtis connected on an RBI single
that scored fellow senior Maureen Keenan. However, the Lady
Lions added two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more
in the sixth to account for the final eight-run margin.
Curtis finished with a pair of hits and drove in the 72nd run of
her career, tying her with former Lady Rams standout Brianne
Bertelesen for third-place all-time in school history.
In the second contest, Lady Rams' freshman right hander Randi
Wozniak (pictured) allowed just eight hits and two earned runs in a
solid outing, but the Lions completed the sweep with one run in the
bottom of the fourth inning and two more in the bottom of the fifth
inning. Kelly and his team will look to get back on the
winning track when they travel to Adelphi University for a
non-league doubleheader with the Panthers on Sunday, April 20th.
