Seniors Kelly McGrath (pictured) and Jacque Curtis played major
roles for the Philadelphia University softball team on Wednesday
afternoon, helping the Lady Rams to a sweep of Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Goldey-Beacom College. The
twinbill sweep, which came by scores of 11-3 and 20-1, improves the
Lady Rams to 10-20 overall on the season including a 6-10 mark in
the conference.
Curtis was the difference in the opening game as the Lady Rams
posted an 11-3 victory. The Punxsutawney (Pa.) High product
went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI
including her second homerun of the season. On the mound,
Curtis allowed eight hits and three unearned runs in five innings,
earning her team-high sixth victory of the season. Curtis
also got help from senior outfielder Maureen Keenan and freshman
outfielder Jen Richard, who added two hits apiece.
In the second game, McGrath helped the Lady Rams take control
early, connecting on a two-run double in the bottom of the second
inning of an eventual 20-1 victory. McGrath added another
two-run double in the bottom of the third inning, finishing the
contest with three hits, three runs and a career-high five
RBI. Head Coach John Kelly's team pounded out a season-high
20 hits in the triumph including four from sophomore designated
hitter Kristin Giamatteo and three apiece from Keenan and senior
infielder Janine Becker. Sophomore lefthander Kelly Rauco
earned the complete-game win on the mound, allowing just three hits
and one unearned run to go along with four strikeouts.
Philadelphia University will look to extend its winning streak when
it returns to action on Friday, April 18th, hosting Nyack College
in a league doubleheader.
