Seniors Shannon Shippey and Maggie Bornhorst scored six points
and five points, respectively, helping the Philadelphia University
women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 victory at Georgian Court
University on April 10th. The Lady Rams, who improve to 5-2 with the
victory, overcame a two-goal deficit with just over ten minutes
remaining, scoring five of the final six goals for the win.
In the first half, first-year Head Coach Jenn Devinney's team
fell behind 5-4 before Bornhorst tallied two straight goals to
close the first frame for a 6-5 Philadelphia University
advantage. In the second half, the Lions tallied the first
four goals for a 9-6 lead before the Lady Rams rallied for three
straight goals of their own including Shippey's 15th goal of the
year. After Georgian Court took its a two-goal lead at 11-9,
Shippey tallied two of the Lady Rams' four goals -- including the
eventual game-winner with 3:52 remaining -- en route to the
victory.
Sophomore netminder Kelly Staerk (pictured) registered seven
saves for her fourth win of the year for the Lady Rams, who will
return to action on Saturday, April 12th, with a road contest at
St. Thomas Aquinas College.
