Seniors Marissa Wisniewski, Maggie Bornhorst (pictured) and
Shannon Shippey combined for 13 points, helping the Philadelphia
University women's lacrosse team to a 17-8
win at Wilmington University on Saturday afternoon.
Wisniewski paced the team with five points, collecting two goals
and three assists, while Bornhorst and Shippey netted four goals
apiece as the Lady Rams improve to 2-1 on the season.
The host Wildcats tallied the first goal of the game at the 26:49
mark, but senior Allison Kessler tied the score just a minute later
and Head Coach Jen Devinney's team extended the lead with goals
from sophomore Lauren Woodie and Bornhorst for a 3-1
advantage. After Wilmington trimmed the lead to 3-2 with
15:55 remaining in the opening frame, the Lady Rams answered with
goals from Bornhorst and Wisniewski, ultimately taking an 10-4 lead
at the half.
In the second half, Wisniewski and Shippey opened the scoring and
the Lady Rams never looked back, maintaining at least a six-goal
margin the rest of the way. In net, sophomore Kelly Staerk
finished with 16 saves in 50:00 minutes of action for Philadelphia
University before giving way to fellow sophomore Katherine
Sullivan, who recorded one save.
Devinney and her team will return to action on Sunday, March 30th,
hosting Bloomsburg University at Ravenhill Field.
