Kutztown, PA- The Philadelphia University Lady
Rams (5-4, 1-1 CACC) jolted the Kutztown University Golden Bears
(7-1, 0-0 PSAC) 68-64 on Saturday afternoon, led by junior center
Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) who
finished with game-high 26 points and 16 rebounds. The loss
was the first for KU this season.
The Lady Rams started off on a 4-0 run, but the Golden Bears
tied it 4-4 for the first of 10 lead changes throughout the
contest. At 4:48 remaining in the first half, PhilaU pulled
ahead by six on a Romano layup to take a 26-20 lead.
PhilaU shot 41% from field goal range to KU's 37% during the
game.
KU's Rachel Wisemiller got a bucket at 1:51 in the first stanza
to tie it once again, but senior forward Amanda
Brennan (Stratford, PA/ Sterling) answered with a layup to
give the Lady Rams a slim 30-28 advantage at the break.
Wisemiller finished with a team-high 22 points for the Golden
Bears, while Brennan had 16 points and six rebounds for PhilaU.
Tied at 42-42 in the second half, KU went on a 4-0 spurt, but
the Lady Rams answered with a trey by Brennan and an ensuing layup
from Romano to take back the lead.
PhilaU made 9-11 free-throws in the final minute as desperation
set in for KU, and the Lady Rams pulled out a 68-64 victory.
The maroon and gray shot 76% from the charity stripe for the
game.
Sophomore guard Steph Agger (N. Cape May, NJ/
Lower Cape May) finished the night with 10 points for PhilaU.
The Lady Rams return to CACC action on Tuesday, December
23rd at Wilmington at 2:00 p.m.
