Philadelphia, PA- The
Philadelphia University women's soccer team (11-7-4, 8-0-3 CACC)
fell 1-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
women's soccer match against the Georgian Court University Lions
(12-6-5, 7-1-3 CACC). GCU's game-winner came on an own-goal
by PhilaU. The Lady Rams won the CACC regular-season title
outright going undefeated in conference play.
The Lady Rams outshot the Lions 29-3 in a game that saw PhilaU
control the tempo of the match for the majority of the 90
minutes.
The Lions had a chance to score in the first half as sophomore
Shannon Mastrogiovanni fired a direct kick from right outside the
box that drifted just wide. GCU got on the board with a PU own-goal
with less than two minutes remaining in the first period to give
the Lady Rams a 1-0 deficit heading into halftime and the eventual
game-winner.
Forward Sara Redka (Williamsport, PA/
Williamsport) had a team-high seven shots for the Lady Rams.
Senior goalie and CACC Player of the Year Sara
Hall (Newark, DE/ Wilmington Charter) had one save for
PhilaU, while GCU keeper Lindsay Hammond had 16 saves for the
Lions.
Several members of the Lady Rams earned CACC All-Tournament
honors including: seniors Brianna Reinford
(Gilbertsville, PA/ Pottsgrove) and Christy
Bauckman (Silver Spring, MD/ Good Counsel) along with
sophomore Redka.
