Philadelphia, PA- The
Philadelphia University women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 CACC)
jump started the 2008-09 season with a 66-43 victory over the
visiting New York Institute of Technology (0-1, 0-0 ECC) on
Saturday. Junior center Jess Romano
(Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) led all scorers with 17 points,
adding five rebounds.
PhilaU pulled away 32-10 at the half and never looked back as
the squad shot 54.3% from the floor while holding the Bears to 30%
from field goal range. The PU squad also capitalized on
NYIT's 18 turnovers, scoring 22 points off turnovers.
Junior forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/
Sterling) had a big night for the Lady Rams, scoring 16 points, six
rebounds and a steal off the bench. She was 4-5 from
three-point range.
Sophomore guard Steph Agger (N. Cape May, NJ/
Lower Cape May) had 13 points and three boards while sophomore
forward Ashley Gaskins (Harrisburg, PA/
Central Dauphin) was one point shy of a double-double with nine
points, 10 rebounds.
NYIT was led by Latoya Anderson with 12 points and one
board.
The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, November
22nd at West Chester University at 1:00 p.m.
