Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
men's tennis team (1-1) got a big lift from their singles players
when they needed it, getting a close 5-4 win over the University of
the Sciences on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman #1 singles
Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/
Gainesville) picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win to lead the Rams.
Phila U. was in trouble early on in the match after losing two
of three doubles contests, as the #1 doubles team of sophomore
Tom McAvoy (Phoenixville, PA/ Phoenixville) and
Torreola got the only win, 8-4.
The Rams got back on track in singles action as #3 McAvoy won in
a tough 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) match, #4 freshman Ryan
Christopher (Pottstown, PA/ Pottstown) picked up a 6-2,
4-6 (10-4) victory. Sophomore #5 singles player Seppi
Hutter (Bellvue, WA/ Bellvue) clinched his match 6-2, 4-6
(7-3) to seal the win.
Phila U. will host La Salle University on Monday, October
13th at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference match.
