This afternoon, the Philadelphia University women's soccer team,
fresh off of garnering head coach George Dunbar
his 100th career win, earned a hard-fought 2-1
double overtime victory against Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) rival Wilmington University at Ravenhill Field.
The Lady Rams opened scoring in the 22nd minute as Melissa
McMullen (shown) tallied her third goal of the season on a
lead pass from Rebecca Kennedy who was credited
with her first assist of the year. The score was 1-0 at halftime as
the Rams outshot the Wildcats 8-0 in the opening period.
In the 68th minute, the CACC's leading scorer, Begum
Malali, tied the game for Wilmington when she put home a
deflection from a corner kick. The goal was the first one
yielded by Philadelphia University in conference play this
season. The game then went into overtime as the Lady Rams
kept the pressure on the Wildcats, finishing the contest with a
sizeable 18-3 advantage in shots.
However, the margin of victory turned out to be a converted penalty
kick in the 106th minute from senior Brianna
Reinford, which stands as her team-leading seventh goal of
the season. The victory moves the Lady Rams to 10-4 for the
year, and they remain an unblemished 8-0 in CACC action. Next
up for the women's soccer team is a CACC road match at Felician
College in Rutherford, N.J., this Saturday, October 20th at 1:00
p.m.
