PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (4-3, 3-0 CACC) recorded its third straight win with a 3-1 victory over Goldey-Beacom (3-5, 2-2 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams got off to a hot start and needed just 11 minutes to find the back of the net. Jefferson earned its second corner kick of the game, but it was quickly cleared by the defense. However, the clear went right to
Grace Kenville at the top of the box, and she fired a shot into the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning capitalized off of a failed clear in the 24
th minute to even the score. A GBC player intercepted the attempt and executed a give-and-go with her teammate to get Goldey-Beacom level. The Rams outshot the Lightning, 3-1 for the rest of the half but the score remained tied at one.
Jefferson dominated play in the second half, posting a 7-1 advantage in shots over the first 25 minutes but the Rams could not net the go-ahead tally. Jefferson finally broke through in the 72
nd minute.
Avery Nogami dribbled down the right side then centered to
Nikki Dedes. Dedes booted a shot off of the right post and into the cage to give the Rams a 2-1 advantage.
Nogami iced the game with her first collegiate goal in the 85
th minute.
Anna Midock took a free kick in Jefferson's own end and sent it into open space down field. Nogami won a foot race to the ball and chipped it over the Lightning goalkeeper to make it 3-1.
