Women's Soccer Plays Millersville To Stalemate In Season Opener

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team played host Millersville to a 2-2 draw in the season opener on Friday.

GAMEPLAY
The Rams had the first chance of the contest just over four minutes in but Kiery Spatz's shot was stopped by the Marauders' goalkeeper. Millersville converted its first opportunity of the game in the 13th minute for a 1-0 lead. Jefferson turned up the pressure, recording three of the next four shots, but still trailed by one. The Rams benefitted from a miscue by the Marauders as an own goal in the 43rd minute evened the score at one apiece.

In the second half, Jefferson went on top as Megan McCully set up Laural Erick in the 54th minute. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Millersville found the equalizer just 1:08 later to make it a 2-2 game. The Rams controlled possession for the remainder of the period, outshooting the host school 5-3 and having a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, but the squads stayed deadlocked and went to overtime.

Jefferson had a 4-2 advantage in shots in the extra sessions but the Marauders recorded the lone shot on target. Jackie Martino made the save for the Rams with 33 seconds left in the second overtime period to preserve the tie.
