Offense springs to life in 3-2 win over Bloomfield

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team struck three times in the opening half and held on to defeat visiting Bloomfield 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Homecoming Day match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) scored twice for the Rams (4-5-0 , 3-3-0 CACC), while Nicole Raab (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had a goal and an assist.

Raab opened the scoring just 7:19 on a breakaway after getting behind the Bloomfield (3-6-0, 1-5-0 CACC) defense. The goal was her second of the season.

Chmielewski increased the advantage to 3-0 with a pair of goals, her fourth and fifth of the year, just under 17 minutes apart. Her first strike came at the 13:21 with a shot that squeaked inside the right post, after receiving a pass from Raab. Chmielewski's second goal  was a shot from 10 yards away at 30:15.

Philadelphia held the 3-0 lead until the 70:50 when Lisa Parello found the back of the net from 15 with a shot that slid under Jaclyn Parry (Telford, Pa./Souderton). The Bears closed within 3-2 at 78:54 on a Nicole McWilliams goal.

The Rams' back four held the Bears off over the final 11:06, not allowing a shot the rest of the way.

Starting keeper Erin Tinneny (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) played 72:28 and made two saves to earn the win (2-1-0). The Bears' Diana Vincentini stopped five of the eight shots on goal she faced in 45 minutes.

Philadelphia outshot Bloomfield 24-8.

Philadelphia returns to action with a rescheduled non-conference match against visiting Molloy on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m.
