Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team won its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season title since 2011 with a 2-0 victory over conference foe Chestnut Hill in the regular season finale Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia (11-6-1, 10-2-0 CACC)—now a six-time regular season champion—secures the top seed for the CACC Tournament and a first-round home match on Monday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. The Rams' opponent, either Wilmington (Del.) or Goldey-Beacom, will be determined on Friday.
Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass./Andover) opened the scoring with her third goal of the year at the 22:01 mark. Alex Reyes (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) took a shot at the right post, which was turned aside by Griffin keeper Samantha Pauls. Pauls wasn't able to control the Reyes shot, and the ball fell to an unmarked Van Antwerp, who tapped the ball into the open net.
At 29:27, Morgan Graus (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) found a loose ball at the top of the six-yard box and beat Pauls with a right-footed shot to tack on an insurance goal. It was Graus' second goal of 2014.
The Philadelphia defense held Chestnut Hill to just three shot attempts, only one got through to keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie). Shaw is now up to 11 shutouts this year
On the offensive end, the Rams took a season-high 28 shots at the Griffin net. Pauls made nine saves.
